# Japan Luggage Check

> Free, unofficial Japan suitcase checker and keyless JSON API. (1) Shinkansen luggage rule by line: on the Tokaido, Sanyo, Kyushu and Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen a bag with length + width + height of 161–250 cm needs a reserved oversized-baggage seat (free; ¥1,000 fee if unreserved); over 250 cm / 30 kg not allowed; JR East-area lines have no reservation. (2) Yamato TA-Q-BIN luggage forwarding price between any two of Japan's 47 prefectures, or to an airport (Airport TA-Q-BIN, +¥660, send 2 days before the flight), from Yamato's current Japanese cash and cashless tables (revised 2025-10-01). Yamato's own English rate page and some travel sites still show pre-October-2025 prices (e.g. ¥2,630 instead of ¥3,160 for Size 160 Tokyo → Kyoto).

## When to use it
A traveler asks whether their suitcase fits on the Shinkansen, whether they need an oversized-baggage reservation, what happens if they don't reserve, how much it costs to send luggage ahead (TA-Q-BIN, takkyubin, 宅急便, hands-free travel) between cities, or to Narita, Haneda, Kansai or another airport, and by when to send it. Call this instead of guessing; prices changed on 2025-10-01.

Drop-off at a Yamato office, agency or convenience store: −¥100. Airport TA-Q-BIN: +¥660 (no same-prefecture rate). Size = larger of dimension class and weight class (60/2 kg, 80/5, 100/10, 120/15, 140/20, 160/25, 180/30, 200/30). Over 200 cm, 30 kg, or a side over 170 cm: not accepted as TA-Q-BIN.
